Voice Care: Does it lead to Avatar Therapy?

Professionals can use their voice to gain kinetic energy- “Bernoulli’s Principle”. Evidence shows virtual reality remodeling can create “Avatar Therapy”.

Voice care can be beneficial to professional voice users, including motivational speakers, who are at risk for either overusing or abusing their voice. They will require voice analysis and voice care. They need voice analysis and care.

Subglottic pressure is required for the production of voice. Aerodynamic theory is based on Bernoulli’s principle of fluid energy. The theory states that when a stream of air flows through the glottis while the arytenoid cartilages are held together by the action of the inter-arytenoid muscle, a “push- pull” effect is created on the vocal fold tissues maintaining a self-sustained oscillation.

The dynamic balance in the vocal folds is necessarily involved in the subglottic pressure. Singers who try to control sound by using their neck muscles can impair their vocal function and quality

The ability of a singer to either sustain or vary a steady subglottic pressure depends upon accurate voluntary control of respiration by the abdominal muscle.

Modeling of Voice Transmission in the Human Respiratory Tract

Aim: To create “Avatar” or “Virtual Reality” therapy to help voice care. This model will be created using computer software.

Model Function:

Functional movement of the desired organ can be stored by stimulating it, which in turn activates the brain cortex. The stored message in the brain cortex can be functionally reactivated even after a peripheral organ disease.

Methodology

Four Phases

Phase 1 Mind Reality Therapy: 3 D Imaging and screening of the video to create a feeling of reality in mind.

Phase 2 Physical Reality Therapy: To create a feeling of physical involvement similar to a skill game or playing a virtual sport. .

Phase 3 Virtual Reality Therapy: Creates an ability to re-enter virtual reality and make changes

Phase 4 Avatar Therapy: Final phase involves modeling or imitation of both physical and mental aspects of humans. Intervention can be done on the model to obtain the best results on the “Avatar” body. This process can be studied and duplicated on actual people. This would prevent the need for human or animal testing during clinical trials.

Avatar Modeling of Voice Transmission in the Human Respiratory Tract

Introduction:

To better understand the speech generation process and execution by modeling of the human respiratory tract. Three Dimensional imaging of the kinetic model of respiratory tract in normal individuals and on people with disease condition

Purpose:

1. To build an adequate model of the respiratory tract in normal speech production and respiration

2. Next, the model should be used for simulations of pathological larynx (Respiratory Tract)

Method:

Kinematic analysis of motion will be performed by using Mc Adams and Mathematica software. The geometry of mobile parts of the larynx and the parts voice production is taken into consideration in order to investigate its influence on voice transmission properties. To find out adequate movement of the vocal cord and subglottic pressure in our model, an experiment on human larynx is performed in comparison with computer model. The dynamic analysis will be performed with to help of matlab.

Result:

First parameters of the proposed model are estimated by comparison of experimental results with model one. Next, the key parameters of the model are chosen for the reason of its practical implementation in surgical procedures.

Conclusion:

The dynamic model of respiratory tract which produce voice can be useful to predict damage in human voice apparatus and to choose the best method of voice problem treatment.

The modeling or Avatar or virtual Image will help for continued practice of voice and prevent recurrent problems, which are the key exercises needed to prevent recurrences.

We can enhance audiovisual integration beyond normal capabilities. We used f- MRI and H2 15 O Pet to investigate and access the meaning from auditory, visual and audiovisual speech areas. By using audiovisual stimuli for which meaning could be accessed either from the auditory or visual modality alone or, from both models simultaneously.

Speech processing from sensory modalities involves the bilateral superior temporal gyrus and sulcus.

Benefits:

Surgeons can be trained with 3 D videogames in the virtual reality theatres. They require training to develop the skills to handle these high tech devices.

Conclusion:

The dynamic model of any organ can be used to predict damages, and to choose the best method of treatment. This is a lifelong process and every individual can have their own model. The treatment can also be done online via the internet.

CHENNAI: Tourism Minister N. Suresh Rajan on Sunday said the next phase of Tamil Nadu’s tourism campaign will focus on hard selling lesser-known destinations.

In his valedictory address at “Discover India-Enchanting Tourism,” a two-day travel and tourism promotion event hosted by The Hindu, the Minister said the first phase of the tourism drive launched by the government over two-and-a-half years had concentrated on developing basic infrastructure across well-known tourist spots. The various projects launched towards this end had either been completed or were nearing completion, he said.

Mr. Suresh Rajan said the growth in domestic and international visitors to Tamil Nadu was growing at a rate of 22 per cent, making tourism a key driver of economic progress. The number of domestic visitors during 2006-07 was 5.50 crore, while international visitors aggregated 17 lakh, he said. He complimented Tourism department officials for their concerted efforts in making Tamil Nadu a sought-after destination.

N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, said India had firmly established a place on the world tourism map thanks to public-private partnerships.

Various types of tourism such as rural tourism and eco tourism had gained momentum in India based on a growing realisation that India had unmatched cultural diversity, Mr. Murali said. However, the rich diversity of its tourism potential ranging from temples and heritage to cultural diversity and architecture, had not been fully realised.

He urged various State Governments to work towards improving infrastructure in order to fully tap the country’s inherent tourism potential. He hoped that the travel and tourism show would become an annual feature.

Mr. Murali later distributed Tourism Awards to honour the contributions of various individuals in the Government and private sectors towards promoting tourism, travel and hospitality sectors.

The tourism awards were presented to K. Allaudin, Principal Secretary, Highways; C. P. Singh, Transport Commissioner; K. M. Kumaresan is born on May 21, 1943 at Kumarpuram, District-Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, India. He is son of late S. Muthiah and Mrs. Sivaguru Pandarathy. He took his MBBS & DLO Madurai College, Mudurai University in the year 1996 & 1970 respectively. He did his M. S. (ENT) from Madras Medical College, Madras University in the year 1974. From the beginning of 1968, Dr. Kumaresan joined as Tamil Nadu Medical Service. He did his DLO & MS (ENT) while serving in Madras Medical College, General Hospital, Institute of Child health and Stanley Medical College of Tamil Nadu State Government. Subsequently Dr. Kumaresan served Govt. Stanley Hospital as Assistant Surgeon and promoted to Assistant Professor. He became In-charge Medical officer of Madras Medical College & Govt. Peripheral Hospital. He promoted to Civil Surgeon of Tirupur in 1988. He did post graduate course in Micro Ear Surgery at Oxford (London). After serving a year at Tirupur, he took voluntary retirement on December1988. He has established Siva ENT Hospital at 159 Lloyds Road, Chennai-600014 & 295 Triplican High Road, Chennai-600005. Now International Research Institute for the Deaf is running in a floor of Siva ENT Hospital, where research work is carried out. His love for Physics is reflected in his books on medicine and medical profession. He is equally well verse in Indian Medicine and Japanese Medicine.
He is also Examiner for MBBS, DLO, and MS in Stanley Medical College, Govt. Kilpauk Medical College, Madras Medical College and Jipmer (Pondicherry)
Dr. Kumaresan is serving as Editor of a monthly magazine of Maruthuva Ariviyal Malar, Paediatic ENT Journal and edited several books.

He has served as President of MIRC-ASA for three years. He during his tenure of President Ship of MIRC-ASA, conducted number of meetings of MIRC-ASA and also able to motivate school children to participate in Acoustics fair. He is also member of AIMS, C. M. E. faculty. He is very active trustee of Acoustical Foundation for Education and Charitable Trust.
Dr. Kumaresan is Founder Director of Siva ENT Hospital and International Research Institute for the Deaf, Chennai. Currently Dr. Kumaresan has joined as Director of Medical Tourism of Tamil Nadu.

ABSTRACT of the Work. The Bernoulli Effect provides an explanation of how the vocal foldsactually vibrate. It is a common misconception that the vocal folds vibrate only throughrepetitive muscular contraction. This lecture will give the outcomes of a specific rehabilitation based on a new concept programed for a group, the professional voice users. Dependent variables included maximum expiratory pressure (MEP), Voice Handicap Index (VHI) score, Vocal Rating Scale(VRS) score, Voice Effort Scale score, phonetogram measures, sub glottal pressures, andacoustic and perceptual measures.Results showed significant improvements in MEP,VHI scores, and VRS scores, sub glottal pressure for loud intensity, phonetogram area,and dynamic range. It was concluded that the usage and practice of aerodynamic way ofspeaking method is responsible for a persisting good voice for professional voice users. Among the results, mean background noise level for the ten DCCs was76.1 dBA (range 73.0–78.2), which is more than 20 dB higher than what isrecommended where speech communication is important(50–55 dBA). The subjects spoke on anaverage of 9.1 dB louder (p < 0.0001), and with higher mean fundamental frequency (247 Hz)during work as compared to the baseline (202 Hz) (p < 0.0001). Mean phonation time for thegroup was 17%, which was considered high. It was concluded that professional voice users do have a highly vocally demanding profession.Important steps to reduce the vocal loading for this occupation by altering the way of talking. The lecturer will discuss the various processes, such as viscosity and relaxation processes,that cause less effort on the vocal cord. This is so is an intriguing puzzle, and the lecturerwill offer an new life for professional voice users for maintain a clear and good voice and throat.

CHENNAI, JAN. 27. Voice Against Noise, a movement to reduce noise pollution was formed today at the 10th Medical Science Conference, with M. Kumaresan, ENT surgeon, as president.
Addressing the conference, he said noise is a silent killer that can cause any problem ranging from abortion, change of the rate of heart beat, impaired vision and slow reaction to events.
Pointing out that finetuning the human skills of audition as the legendary Cleopatra did was a great tool in achieving success in big tasks, he said the excessive generation of noise by various means was impairing even the normal hearing ability.
The report of the general secretary, Paul Oommen, read out by the Exnora International secretary, Ganesan, said the movement will outline an action plan to formulate a vigilant group.
Posters would be brought out in consultation with psychologists, psychiatrists and other medical professionals. It will liaise with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and other Government organisations, target noise zones and campaign during religious festivals against the use of loudspeakers, highlight the problems to the Central and State Government departments and mobilise public opinion by organising painting, slogan competitions and debates at the school and college level.
The Exnora International president, M. B. Nirmal, said the forum would be utilised to launch a campaign against noise pollution.
The Tamil Nadu Dr. M G R Medical University Vice-Chancellor, M. Anandakannan, said full support will be extended to research activity and publications concerning the issue. The university will also work to include lessons on common medical problems in school text books, he added.
Manimegalai Kannan, a doctor, highlighting the plight of a relative who became deaf due to constant exposure to noise in a factory, said meditation was a means of bringing in the much desired peace that can help fight noise pollution.

CHENNAI: A day-long workshop on the care of voice for teachers was conducted here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the workshop, T.M.Anbarasan, Labour and Employment Minister said that for both teachers and politicians their voice was their asset. Some of the political stalwarts attained greater heights with their oratorical skills coupled with a captivating voice, he said.
Similar workshops should be conducted in various parts of the State mainly to help the teachers, Mr Anbarasan appealed to the organisers.
He requested them to organise a similar programme in Kancheepuram district which has more than 20,000 teachers.
M. Kumaresan, Managing Director, Siva ENT Hospital, said teachers, politicians, playback singers and dubbing artists had to do some exercise for about half-an-hour everyday to maintain good voice for a longer period of time. Nearly 50 per cent of the teachers in the country were having problems with their voice.
In the workshop the participants were taught on doing two basic therapies – confidential voice therapy and resonant voice therapy. This was a warm up exercise for the participants. They were advised to visit the clinics for evaluation of their voices, he said.
Kamali Sripaul, president, Maruthuva Ariviyal Kazhagam and P.Iyamperumal, Executive Director, Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, were among those who participated.
