Puberphonia

F O R E W O R D

This research book UMAR FOR PEBERPHONIA by Dr. M.Kumaresan and his son Dr.K.Navin Bharath, eminent ENT Surgeons of Chennai is a treasure not only for the medical brethrens but also to every common person. Voice of a man resembling like a woman, may not be either a disease or a medical deficiency in the common parlor, but considering the effect of such inherent defect causing mental trauma, and making their future, a big question mark, particularly among the younger generation, Dr.M.Kumaresan has taken it as a challenge and he is able to remove such defect, thus silently doing a revolution in the field of Medical Science and has cured nearly 1000 patients, which is a marvelous achievement.
The procedure adopted by him in curing such defects has been invented by him after a long and thorough research on the subject after referring to innumerable research articles published worldwide. This non invasive treatment for puberphonia is new for the medical world, but the Author has drawn inspiration from a great women Tamil saint of 10th century Avvaiyar. Avvaiyar, in her devotional poem, Vinayagar Agaval praising Lord Ganesha, while referring to the importance of human birth has wonderfully
exclaimed the rareness of birth without any deformity like bend (goon-hump on the back), blind and deaf, also used the term “PEDU”, which refers to the defective voice of a man as a woman, and therefore Tamil society even in the ancient times was concerned about this defect. The author in his inimical style has traced the concern and treatment of this defect even by Tholkappier, Avvaiyar, Vallalar Ramalinga Adigal and other ancient saint of Tamil culture.
The treatment which is stated to constitute mostly training continuously and the fact that at twelve month follow up, 90% of the boys have developed their natural voice shows the amazing result of the treatment which is unique and deserve to be appreciated. The author’s naming of the treatment as “MAGARAKKATTU MARUTHUVAM” is another milestone. It shows the confidence of an ENT doctor of the English medical system in the natural system also, prevalent in the ancient Tamil Nadu and I am really proud of Dr.M.Kumaresan. While congratulating the authors of this wonderful research study undertaken for 29 years and another 3 years for preparing this material, I appeal to the medical fraternity to also consider and take into account the proven treatments if are available in the other systems too. I hope that this book will be an eye opener and a concrete step in finding out new method of granting relief to people, particularly the youngsters who face problems which
are emotional, psychological, social and professional as the author himself catagorises.
Justice Dr.P.Jyothimani.
