Dr M Kumaresan findings: Venturi effect basically describes how a fluid's velocity increases as it passes through a narrower section of a pipe, and this leads to a drop in pressure. In the context of phonation in the pharynx, when air passes through these constrictions, it speeds up, and that drop in pressure helps create a resonance. This resonance amplifies the sound at the level of the uvula, and the uvula’s vibration adds another layer of tonal quality. So, essentially, the Venturi effect helps in creating that rich, resonant quality in the pharyngeal phonation.
