Dr. M. Kumaresan, an ENT specialist, uses a form of redirected phonation to treat puberphonia by manipulating pharyngeal resonance and the uvula. Redirected phonation is a general voice therapy technique that uses a patient's natural, non-speaking voice sounds (like a cough or laugh) to establish a new, normal speaking ancestral voice. Uvula Manipulation and Resonance (UMAR): This is a core component of his therapy.Using instruments, Dr. Kumaresan manipulates the uvula—the fleshy tissue hanging at the back of the throat—while the patient makes sounds like a cough or a snore.
